Interesting you mention the Hindi remake of "Twelve Angry Men". Need to watch it sometime.
These days I have fun finding the "Original" source of Hindi movies we have been watching. The thrill and satisfaction of watching a good Hindi movie is kind of dampened because I know it is not an original idea :). Here are some recent movies I watched and found the original:
Dus - Usual suspects (Kevin Spacey excels in this one- a edge of the seat thriller). Dus was a poor remake.
Black - a copy of the 1962 double Oscar winner movie The Miracle Worker. Black is a very good movie by itself. But it was disappointing to know that it was a copied idea. When Paheli was shortlisted for Oscar nomination in 2005, I was wondering how could this movie be ahead of Black!! Maybe the answer to that was Paheli was an original theme :).
Zinda - A Korean movie copy!!
The list is endless. Don't know why Indian cinema needs so much of help getting inspired. From the top of my head I can just think of Nagesh Kukunoor being a bit different and original. I guess all bollywood script writers are spending half their time discovering new foreign movies that they can use for their next venture. The next major task will be to figure out if there is a Hindi movie already made borrowing a particular theme considering the fact that Bollywood churns out more than 1,000 movies a year, at least twice as many as Hollywood.
Finally, is it lack of creativity or is it just the urge to copy hit story lines that drives so many remakes? Happy guessing then :)

Read somewhere that Hollywood is now thinking of making a movie based on Munna Bhai MBBS !! That will be a first (I guess) :)

So long as I get my money's worth of entertainment and fun (and sometimes timepass too) I don't bother if it is original or copied.
There are regional movies like "samsaaram idhu minsaram" (in kannada it was ondhe goodina hakkigalu) or chachi 420 which were fun to watch in both the original as well as remake versions.
A correction ter...Dus is not the remake of usual suspects...it may hve been inspired a little...but a complete copy of it is a movie called chocolate..
And ter r many such movies whch r so called inspirations...
